Radio & TV Talk

We'll be the new Morning X with talent." Pause. "I know what you're thinking: 99X still has a morning show? Leslie Fram died four years ago. Thanks to Energizer, she's still running strong."

Here's their MySpace page..

Carothers was the producer at a Philly rock station morning show. This will be Carothers' first gig as the lead man. Here was the original blog entry on him on July 7..

The rock station has gone its first ten months without a morning show, opting for music, with good ratings. But most rock stations have personality-based morning shows and Project is going for it. Since Fred Toucher and the Regular Guys were ousted last year, Atlanta FM radio has been sorely lacking in that edgy, testosterone-filled morning radio for males who like a bit of Howard Stern-type humor with their coffee.

When football is turned into watery farce

As the African Cup of Nations looms, many people in English football are wondering why they insist on playing it in the middle of the Premier League season, thus affecting the leading clubs. One of the reasons is because in January you can be more or less sure of escaping the rains. This is not an argument that sits well with everyone. "It rains in Europe as well, doesn’t it?" Avram Grant, the Chelsea first-team coach, asked.

Well, try playing football in a tropical downpour. I have. It was great, actually. I was playing for mighty Gwai-loong in Hong Kong and neither side wanted to be seen giving up. It would be something we Englishmen call losing face. And so the match became a glorious absurdity.

Bernard Kenny honored as Senate president on last day in office

Retiring after a 21-year career in the New Jersey Legislature, Senate Majority Leader Bernard Kenny (D-Hudson) today took the gavel as Senate president for day.

Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex) relinquished his office for a day as a gesture to Kenny, who decided not to run for re-election to the Senate last November. They changed places in the Senate chamber of the Statehouse, with Kenny taking the podium and Codey seating himself at Kenny's desk among the rest of the senators. .

Canadian Couple Goes to Cuba for Her Orthopedic Surgery, But Instead ...

A Halifax couple, Diane and Vern Paul, traveled to Cuba so that she could get orthopedic surgery, but instead, they both were treated. Vern was so impressed with the quality of medical care in Cuba, that at the last minute he decided to get cosmetic surgery. Diane chose Cuba because she knew that the country had outstanding health care, and she wanted to avoid the one-year wait for her treatment in Canada. .

THE CAT LADY

That should be enough to make us a huge political lobby, and I look forward to seeing the proposed pet polices of all the presidential candidates.

Thirty-nine percent of Americans own dogs and 34 percent own cats, but the average dog owner has 1.7 dogs while the average cat owner has 3.4 cats. This means there are 88.3 million pet cats in the United States. Oddly enough, in light of these numbers, my own three cats barely qualify me as a cat lady!

The average cat owner has had cats for 19 years - which means we know a good thing when we live with one. Cats know a good thing, too; 78 percent sleep on a family member's bed at night and 68 percent receive gifts.

If you own a cat sweater, cat earrings or some other feline item, you are part of the 48 percent of cat owners who say they bought "pet-themed" merchandise.

July 2006

As August is almost on us, how can I forget, Mom doing the last minute laundry in order to get everything packed. Dad still trying to figure out how in the world we could get everything in the station wagon.

Going for a full month, we did not have tons of money, so Mom for pack the basics of kitchen goods, her spices, dry and canned goods, and few extra things that she knew the cottage did not have. Dad did not sleep well the night before so most the time he would pack the car the evening before. Mom would try to let Dad get a couple of hours of sleep before the long drive from Ohio to the Cape.

We would normally leave late and drive through the night and get to the Cape around noonish. We tried to stop once and that was a disaster as no one sleep and it was a waste of money.
